Tapping into your tribal identity!

As we delve down deeply into our root chakra, we will begin to uncover how our group identity and connection to our family beliefs really do shape our emotional responses to being included or excluded from "the tribe".    These experiences can be empowering & positive as well as painful & debilitating.

The root chakra, located a the base of the spine and effects our spine, legs, bones, feet along with our immune system.  This is the slowest spinning vortex of the seven and creates a brilliant, ruby-red color.  Along with tribal & family issues, the root chakra is closely related to thoughts & feelings about finances, career, home, possessions and physical safety.

As we begin to open, clear and balance the root chakra on this journey, pay close attention to the physical sensations you experience when processing the self-examination questions.  First, take a few minutes to connect with the energy of your 1st chakra.  Focus your attention on some of the following tribal triggers.  How do you feel when:

*You listen to the national anthem?
*Attend & witness a marriage ceremony of someone you care deeply for?
*You are asked to be a God-parent to a child?

Write, doodle, draw what comes from your heart, your soul and dig deeply into the root of who you really are as you creatively express your sacred truth using the energy & intuition within and around your tribal chakra.

1.  What traditions & belief patterns did you inherit from your family?

2.  Do any of these beliefs still have "control" over your thinking even though you acknowledge that they are no longer valid?  ex:  Little boys love baseball & little girls play with dolls?  Once a cheat, always a cheat? Men are smarter then women?

3.  What is your personal honor code?  Have you ever compromised it?

4.  Do you have unfinished business with family?  If there is, what are the reasons you are not addressing it?

5.  List the blessings that you feel came from your family

6.  What rituals & traditions to you continue from your family?

7.  Whether you are a biological parent or not, we all have a child or children in our life that we would like to carry on family qualities.  What qualities within you would you like "carried" on in a child?

8.  What tribal characteristics within yourself would you like to strengthen & develop?  ex.  We are ONE

Take your time with this, go within and listen. Most importantly - express your feelings.  They are yours, only yours - you determine whether they are helping or hindering your growth into living a life, better than you could ever imagine!
